"Japanese Strangers"

...are really compassionate.
I missed the bus again,
and started on the 2-hour trek home.
Part-way,
a woman from my morning bus
caught sight of me
and waved me over to her side of the street.
She paid for my cab home.
She showed me how to get a bus pass,
and where the inexpensive cabs park at the train station.
Anyone I talk to,
everyone I smile at,
gives my love back ten-fold.
Plato said,
"Always be kind,
for everyone is fighting
a hard battle."
These people live by this philosophy, truly.

  2. What a sweet message! Love the quote from Plato - and that it is the way of life for the Japanese. It is a wonderful thing. Good thing we have Bryn here in Utah or you would never want to come home! Also know that you are in our prayers everyday that the Lord will keep you safe.

  3. Wow. That is awesome that everyone over there is so nice! And here I am in "Happy Valley" and I can hardly get my neighbors to say "hi" back to me. :\

  4. You know, when I got back from Japan I got asked over and over again how I delt with the rude Japanese people, or I was asked if the Japanese people where really as rude as they were told they were. It always suprised me to here these questions.

While I was in Japan all I saw was the imense kindness those people have for others. I was taken care of over and over again. I was never alowed to walk home in the dark, someone always paid for a cab so I could get home safe. I would get meals paid for me. People would drop what they were doing to share an afternoon with me so I would not be alone. I received far more then I was able to give. If people of the world were as kind as the Japanese people I met the world would be a far better place.
