"Good Morning, Mr. Vampire"

"If people were meant to pop out of bed, we'd all sleep in toasters." -Anon

I dunno about you,
but I stink at waking up the first time my alarm clock jingle-jangles.
"5 more minutes, just 5 more min... zZzZz..."
So, to get genki for my students today,
I sang a silly song
and danced with a curling iron next to my face.

I can't wait for the summertime.
My mornings are just plain groggy when I'm up before the sun.
Do you have a magic trick that helps you wake up?
Besides coffee? :)

  1. haha! Love the video!! And, um, I'm not good at waking up early. :P I usually get up and get on my computer first thing and that helps my brain slowly wake up. For fast wake ups, I do yoga or stretching. :)

  2. You are so funny!!!! I can't wait to hear what your students thought about your performance. I bet there was tons of giggling going on. Did they understand the words. How did "bite me baby and suck out my blood" translate? :)

  3. Haha, that is amazing. When I wake up the only way I stay awake is to think of something truly important to me...something really worth being awake for it. I try to think of it in its complexity until I realize that I'm usually thinking about something silly that is important to me (like Ovaltine or Arthur), and I should probably just get out of bed. :)

  4. Here's Dad's sage advice: "Getting up in the morning starts with going to bed at night." So, one idea is to get to bed earlier. That itself requires some robust strategies, but it's one key.

Secondly, one of the things that works for me is to think about something good I anticipate doing or happening that day. It might even be after work: working out, something fun to eat, a movie/book to enjoy, updating your blog. It's quite personal/subjective, but having a happy thought first thing helps me. (In my case, I just think about getting a blog post from Whimsical Musical!)

    Love you!
    O.

  5. ha ha ha ha Oh boy! Do I miss you? Yes I do. You crack me up! I like to take hot chocolate with me to early morniong seminary. (Which is a really funny story because the teacher thaought it was coffee and the timing was just perfect!) But you have a pretty good idea. Dance around to up beat music! Of course I sometimes end up doing thast in my sleep too....

  6. Oh how I love your video! It made my day!

As for the getting up in the morning... Um I failed this week. I did make it to all of my schools on time, but I got out of bed the last possible minute to make it in time... I have decided, against my better judgment, to get sick. Thursday and Friday were the hardest for me to get out of bed, and today I got out of bed at noon. ;D

Ok, tip.... just do it. Tell yourself that you have to do it anyway and the longer you put it off the worse it gets. Usually that works for me, unless I am getting sick... then I make it worse for me.

  8. Another thought is to not eat late at night. I noticed that it's easiest for me to get up when I've started my fast the night before. I'm not suggesting fasting every day, just not eating soon before retiring.

  9. Taking a walk early morning usually work me up, or put me back to sleep.

With me, I'm not awake unless I've been in bright happy light for a while. So yes, I'm not actually awake until AFTER I get to work most days.
I second the motion for going to bed early. It's much easier to be awake now that I'm rooming with my little sister who is supposed to go to bed at 9:00 than it was with the night owls at college. (6:00 comes awful early if bedtime was after midnight).
